Instructions

    • 1

Download the pictures that you want to include on your DVD slide show from your digital camera. To make things easier, I suggest saving them to one folder for easy access when you develop the slide show. If your digital camera uses a secure digital (SD) card, your computer has a multi-card reader and all of the pictures you want for the slide show are on the card, you can just extract them from the SD card in the reader.

    • 2

Launch Windows Movie Maker by clicking the "Start" button, then "All Programs," and finally on the "Windows Movie Maker" icon.

    • 3

Import the pictures that you want to use for your slide show DVD. One way to do this is by using the Windows Movie Maker "Task" section.

    • 4

Click once on the "Pictures" link under the "Import" section.

    • 5

Select the folder where you saved the images from your digital camera. For illustrative purposes, I saved a few pictures from my son's all-star games last year to a folder called "Slide Show."

    • 6

Click once on an image that you want to put on the slide show, and click once on the "Import" button. You can also perform a group import by clicking on one image, and then clicking on each additional image while holding down the "Control" (Ctrl) key. Once you've selected all of the images, click once on the "Import" button.

    • 7

Move your images the "Storyboard" section of the Movie Maker window. Click once on each file you want to add to the slide show from the "Clip Name" section, then click once on the "Clip" menu and select "Add to Storyboard."

    • 8

Click once on the "Tools" menu and select "Effects." The effects that are listed will manipulate the way your picture appears on the slide show.

    • 9

Click once on the desired effect, hold the mouse button down and drag it to the picture in the storyboard you want to add it to. You will notice that the picture will now have a star on it. To remove an effect, right click once on the effect and select "Remove Effects." Repeat this process for each picture to which you want to add an effect.

    • 10

Click once on the "Tools" menu and select "Transitions." These effects will adjust the manner in which your slide show will move from one picture to the next. The picture will display normally after the effect is finished.

    • 11

Click once on the desired transition, hold the mouse button down and drag it to the rectangular box between the pictures to which you want to add the transition. You will notice that the box has a green design in it. To remove a transition, right click once on the effect and select "Remove." Repeat this process for each picture transitioned.

    • 12

Click once on the "DVD" option under the "Publish To" area of the "Task" section when you are ready to burn your slide show to DVD.

    • 13

Click once on the "OK" button on the pop-up box for Windows DVD Maker. If you haven't already saved the project, Windows will force you to do so before launching DVD Maker.

    • 14

Click once on the "Next" button on Windows DVD Maker when your project appears in the "Name" section of the screen.

    • 15

Insert a blank DVD into your DVD burner. Windows DVD Maker will alert you to insert a disc, if one is not present in the drive.

    • 16

Click once on the "Burn" button when you are ready to burn your slide show to DVD.

    • 17

Click once on the "Close" button after the DVD is complete, or you can choose to burn another copy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Windows Movie and DVD Maker programs have an abundance of different editing tools, so take some time to browse and experiment with them to enhance your project.
