Instructions

    • 1

Buy a live lobster for each member of the family. Some grocery stores carry live lobsters if you don't have a seafood market nearby.

    • 2

Place the lobsters in your freezer for ten minutes. This will numb them for when you are ready to boil them.

    • 3

Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add 1 tbsp. of salt.

    • 4

Remove the rubber bands from the lobsters claws and place the lobster in the boiling water.

    • 5

Cook a 1-lb. lobster for ten minutes, a 2-lb. lobster for thirteen minutes and a 3-lb. lobster for sixteen minutes. Most lobsters fall between 1 and 2 lbs.

    • 6

Remove the lobsters with a set of tongs. Place it into a strainer to make sure all of the water is removed.

    • 7

Pull the legs off being careful not to burn yourself.

    • 8

Place the legs on top of a plate of pasta and serve. Make sure each guest has a pair of lobster crackers so they can open the legs. Don't open the legs for them because they will get cold quickly. Leaving them in the shell keeps them warm.

Tips & Warnings

  • Serve with melted butter or lemon juice for dipping. Boil the lobster for five minutes and then place the lobster on the grill for another eight minutes if you want a BBQ flavor. If you steam your lobster instead of boiling it, you will need to add another five minutes to your cooking time.

  • Do not buy lobster legs or claws at the market. This indicates that they are not fresh. You need to buy your lobster live to ensure freshness.
