How to Make a Nutrition Bar

Nutrition bars are quick and convenient--you can, literally, eat them on the run. But nutrition bars are also expensive, ranging anywhere from 99 cents to over $2 for some high-protein bars. Homemade nutrition bars are much cheaper and have fewer artificial fillers and preservatives, making them easier on the body and the pocketbook. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 2 ½ c peanut butter 2 c honey 2 ¼ c protein powder 3 c uncooked oatmeal ½ c chopped walnuts ½ c raisins ¼ c wheat bran 1/3 c water 2 egg whites

Instructions

      Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

      Combine peanut butter and honey in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds. Mix together until smooth.

      In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the peanut butter mixture and stir until until thoroughly blended.

      At this point, the mix should be very thick. Slowly stir in 1/3 c of water.

      Spray a 9X9 baking pan with cooking spray, and then spread the mixture into the pan.

      Bake for 15 minutes or until edges are brown.

      Let the bars cool slightly and cut into 8 pieces.
