Because lacrosse is a fast and physical game, any advantage that you can get against other competitors is good. Even if you are already the fastest and strongest player on the field, there is one other thing you can do to improve your game---string your lacrosse stick for maximum shot speed.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lacrosse stick Mesh Long shooting string lace Three shooting strings Two pieces of cross lace
  1. Step 1

Find a long flat table on which you can work. You will need to have room to place the supplies next to the stick. A kitchen table is a great place to string a lacrosse stick for maximum shot speed.

  2. Step 2

Take the shooting string and the mesh. Attach the mesh to the top of the stick using the shooting string. Begin at the top of the stick and lace the sidewalls to attach the mesh to the stick. When trying to string a lacrosse stick for maximum shot speed, it is best to make the lacing a bit tighter than a normal lacrosse stick would be. Measure the tightness by comparing a normal lacrosse stick to the stick you are lacing.

  3. Step 3

Take the first of the three shooting strings and place it horizontally at the top of the stick. This shooting string needs to be tight in order to string a lacrosse stick for maximum shot speed. Tie a knot on the outside of one side of the stick where the shooting string starts. Pull this as tightly as possible and tie another knot on the outside of the stick on the other side. Repeat this process with the next two shooting strings, which will go under the first shooting string.

  4. Step 4

Use the cross lace to tie the mesh to the bottom of the frame of the stick. The two pieces of cross lace should start at the top of the stick and then intersect halfway down the stick. Tie them tightly at the bottom of the stick, but not as tight as the the mesh was tied in Step 2.

  5. Step 5

Check the evenness of the strings and mesh. Throw a ball into it a couple of times to see how it feels. Then take a few turns throwing the ball out of it. Look especially to see if the ball gets tangled inside of the mesh when throwing. If there is any tangling, the strings will need to be loosened and re-tightened.

Tips & Warnings
  • Depending on playing preferences, a person can use four shooting strings as well. Add the fourth under the third.
  • Although tightness is important in stringing a lacrosse stick for maximum shot speed, a stick that is too tight will make it hard to catch the ball. Stringing a lacrosse stick might require a lot of stringing and re-stringing before a perfect fit is found.
