How to Install a Porch Screen

Putting up a replacement screen for your patio will bring beauty to your home and keep the pesky insects out. Replacing a screen is a very simple project and can be done by yourself. You can buy fiberglass or metal screening. It is best to keep in mind that fiberglass screening easily tears; if you have pets metal screening is the best to keep them contained.       Measure the size of the porch. Cut the screen to the appropriate length with your scissors. Make sure to purchase screening in the correct width for your needs; make sure that each side of the screen rests on the porch post stud.

      Start at the top of the screening and staple on the wood. You cannot use too many staples--about one every inch. If there are any studs in the middle staple there as well. Continue all the way around your porch until finished. You are now ready to trim.

      Measure the width and length you need to cover the screening seams on the studs. Purchase the appropriate width needed. Cut the trim to the appropriate length to cover the stud to which the screening is stapled. Paint the wood if desired to the appropriate color. Your aim is to cover the staples and provide a nice trimming.

      Nail up the trim with wood nails. Continue all the way around the porch.
