Instructions

    • 1

Turn both hot and cold water off to the entire house. Before you start to disassemble the handles, turn them to the "open" position to let out any water that was in the pipes before you turned the water off.

    • 2

Remove the handles by using a flat head screwdriver and popping off the cap in the front. That will reveal a screw that you will unscrew to pull the handle off. Then remove the trim or escutcheon. It will most likely have a set screw at the bottom that will have to be unscrewed. You may need to cut through any silicone sealant between the trim and the wall to remove it.

    • 3

Place the socket wrench over the valve stem assembly and turn to the left to unscrew it. Take out the stem assembly.

    • 4

Using an adjustable wrench, hold the hex nut in place. Turn the valve/valve seat assembly and remove. Replace the washer that was behind the valve.

    • 5

Place the new valve/valve seat assembly in the pipe and turn it to the right to tighten it. Put the new valve stem assembly in the valve and tighten. Turn the water back on to check for leaks. If there are no leaks, replace the trim and handles.
