Making a Barbie birthday cake will delight your little girl and let you engage your creative instincts. This is straightforward to prepare and decorate, with the trimming and colors up to the artist. You'll need to bake the cake at least a day ahead of the party, let it cool and spend about an hour of decorating time.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cake mix Decorative frosting Sprinkles Barbie accessories Barbie doll 2-quart round baking dish
  1. Step 1

Bake the cake, choosing whatever flavor you or the birthday girl will like, and let the cake cool. Be sure the cake is completely cool before proceeding.

  2. Step 2

Remove the Barbie's clothing and insert her into the center of the cake. The cake will be the Barbie's "skirt," and you will dress her and the skirt up in frosting.

  3. Step 3

Create a base for the dress by smoothing frosting across the cake and the Barbie, being careful not to damage the hair or face. Frost the doll's chest to create a bodice for the cake "skirt." Decorator frosting works well for this.

  4. Step 4

Using decorator frosting and accessories, add the accents to the Barbie's dress and bodice. You can make elaborate rosettes and stylized swirls, or you can make the dress very simple. Use the sprinkles to accent around the base of the skirt.

  5. Step 5

Chill the cake to allow the frosting to set, covering it to prevent the frosting from drying out. It will be ready to serve in a couple of hours.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't bake the cake with the Barbie in it. Don't insert the Barbie until the cake is fully cooled.
