Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cardboard Paints and markers Construction paper Glue Hot glue gun Embellishments, such as beads, feathers and foam shapes
  1. Step 1

Spend some time thinking about and discussing what your coat of arms should say about your family. You could display information about your ancestry or your values or activities your family enjoys doing.

  2. Step 2

Decide what colors and symbols you will use in your coat of arms. Check the Internet or your local library to determine what colors and symbols best represent your family. Plan the layout together and get everyone's input.

  3. Step 3

Trace the shape of your shield from the cardboard. The shield can be any size and shape you would like. Cut out the shield along your lines.

  4. Step 4

Plan the specific layout and arrangement of the shield.

  5. Step 5

Paint the background color of the shield onto one side, then the other side when the first side is dry.

  6. Step 6

Draw your selected symbols onto pieces of paper. When the shield is dry, cut them out and glue them onto the shield.

  7. Step 7

Glue the symbols on the shield and add other embellishments as desired. You can add beads, feathers, yarn, small pebbles or other tiny trinkets to the shield. Some embellishments are best attached with a hot glue gun.

  8. Step 8

Display your family coat of arms in a prominent place in your home.
