How to Keep Parmesan Fresh

Keeping your cheese fresh in the fridge is not rocket science, but it is part science.     • 1

      Set your fridge to 35 to 42 degrees for optimal cheese storage temperature.

      Remove the Parmesan from the plastic wrap it came in from the market. This plastic wrap will suffocate the natural living enzymes in the cheese.

      Wrap the Parmesan in wax or parchment paper. It does not have to be tight.

    • 4

      Wrap the bundle in plastic or foil wrap. This step will prevent the moisture from escaping the cheese.

Tips & Warnings

  • If an expiration date is provided, write the date on the outside of the foil or plastic wrap of your Parmesan.

  • Never eat cheese that has mold. Discard and purchase a new block of cheese.
