How to Calculate Weight Loss Percentage
Many doctors recommend that people who are overweight could greatly improve their health by losing just 10 percent of their body weight, but how do you know the percentage of weight you have lost?
Instructions
-
-
1
Write down your beginning weight and your current weight on paper.
-
2
Subtract your current weight from your starting weight. This difference is the total number of pounds you have lost since you started.
-
-
3
Divide the number of pounds you lost by your starting weight. For example, if you lost 20 pounds, and you started at 200 pounds, you would divide 20 by 200 and get .10.
-
4
Move the decimal place in your answer over two places to the right, and you will get the overall percentage. In the answer from the example, you would move the decimal point from in front of the .10 to behind it. This gives you an answer of 10 percent, your weight loss percentage.
