How to Make a Ceiling Canopy

Want to add romance to your bedroom or make your child's bedroom magical? A ceiling canopy adds a quick update to any bedroom. Although you can purchase a canopy bed, making your own ceiling canopy is easy and cost-effective. All it takes are curtain rods and sheer curtain panels to create a special look for anyone's bedroom.

Things You'll Need

  • Three curtain rods Sheer curtains (three panels) Curtain clip rings Curtain tiebacks (optional)
  • Determine the size of curtain rods and curtain panels you will need for the canopy. First measure the width of the bed; add 4 inches to the total width. This will be the size needed for the curtain rod and curtain panel to go over the head of the bed. Next, measure the length of the bed. This is the size needed for the curtain rods and curtain panels to go above each side of the bed. The curtain panels should be double the sizes measured; this adds fullness to the canopy.

  • Attach the curtain rods to the ceiling. Place the smaller rod directly over the head of the bed and the two longer rods directly over each side of the bed.

  • Place the curtain clip rings over each curtain rod. Place the smaller curtain panel on the rod above the head of the bed; use the curtain clip rings to hold in place. Add the two larger curtain panels to the side rods; use the curtain clip rings to attach. Flair out the smaller curtain panel so it billows around the head of the bed. Keep each side panel opened back toward the head of the bed. At night you could close the side panels for privacy. (Optional: Add tiebacks to the side panels.)
