Having facial hair is usually an embarrassing thing for women of all ages, and remedies such as shaving are not ideal for females. This is because shaving facial hair promotes the growth of stubble, and can make the condition appear even more pronounced and cause further embarrassment. While crème bleaches and liquid facial hair removers can be an effective remedy, the best solution for this problem is learning how to wax facial hair.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider going to a professional to wax facial hair, because it can be potentially dangerous to attempt this at home. Most facial hair waxings cost $20 or less at a salon. However, for cost and publicity reasons, more and more women are choosing to safely and affordably wax facial hair at home.

  2. Step 2

Decide if you want to use a cold or hot wax kit. A cold wax kit does not have the risk of burns associated with a hot wax kit, but can be harder to use. If you have rather dark or lengthy facial hair, you will likely need to try hot wax but must closely follow the instructions to avoid painful burns that could even leave a scar in some cases.

  3. Step 3

Visit your local drugstore or grocery store and purchase a wax kit. Alternatively, those who are especially shy can buy them online. The cost ranges anywhere from $5 to $80, with most effective kits costing about $15. Most kits can be used multiple times depending on how much facial hair must be removed with each use.

  4. Step 4

Wash your skin thoroughly with soap and water, especially around the area you plan to wax. If you have multiple areas to wax, you need to target one area at a time for best results. If you have especially oily skin, you may want to lightly brush a little talcum powder onto the area that requires waxing.

  5. Step 5

Heat your wax if you got a hot wax kit, following the instructions included with your purchase. Be sure not to overheat the wax, as it will render it useless.

  6. Step 6

Test your wax on a small area of skin before applying it to the entire area you need waxed. This is to ensure you got it to the right temperature and also that you are not allergic to the product. Unfortunately, some people are allergic to wax and will need to try crème bleach or a liquid facial hair remover.

  7. Step 7

Place the wax with the included scoop onto the area of your skin that needs hair removal, spreading it evenly and carefully on the area. Common areas to wax facial hair include the upper lip, the chin, the outside of the nose and the side of the face.

  8. Step 8

Place the cloth strip included in your wax facial hair kit and quickly pull it off, going against the direction of your hair growth. You may need to do this twice if your facial hair is growing in multiple directions, but be careful not to use too much hot wax to avoid a burn.

  9. Step 9

Apply lotion or aloe vera gel (this may be included with your wax facial hair kit) to your skin. This helps reduce any discomfort or redness.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that you may need to wax facial hair every three to six weeks depending on how serious the problem is.
  • Never leave hot wax on your face for more than a few moments, as it can either harden and become useless for hair removal or even burn your skin.
