Fishermen realize that every lake has different fishing techniques, ways to catch the fish, lures and baits that work better than others and colors that seem more effective. Because each fisherman knows what kind of lure will work best in the place he wants to fish, it is sometimes beneficial for fishermen to make their own lures, such as plastic fishing worms. These are easy to make and by creating your own you can save a lot of money.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Liquid plastic Plastic coloring Small pan with spout Spoon Stove Glitter (optional) Water Shallow pan or container Plastic bags
  1. Step 1

Pour 1 ounce of liquid plastic into a small saucepan. Turn the stove on low and heat the plastic until it becomes clear and thickens. Stir continuously as the plastic heats up. It will look like syrup when it is ready.

  2. Step 2

Add two drops of plastic coloring to the mixture. If you're trying to obtain a particular color, add one drop of each color you think you will need and stir the mixture. Continue to add more drops of color as you stir to get your desired color. If you would like glitter flakes in your worms then add some glitter flakes at this point and mix them in.

  3. Step 3

Set the mold on a flat surface. Pour the liquid into the mold cavities. Pour until they are completely filled. Tap the mold gently against the surface to bring any air bubbles to the surface.

  4. Step 4

Let the mold cool for 3 to 5 minutes. Fill a shallow pan or container with cold water. Place the mold in it. Make sure the mold remains flat and doesn't tilt or tip. Let the mold sit for 20 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Remove the mold from the shallow pan of water and dry it off. Flip the mold over and carefully push the worms out. Place the worms in a plastic bag to store.

Tips & Warnings
  • If using multiple colors for one worm melt all the plastic colors at the same time and pour them into the mold at the same time
  • Be careful not to scorch or overcook the plastic when melting it
