How to Make Perfume With Spices

While some recipes use essential oils, it's possible to make perfume from items found in the local grocery aisle. Several common herbs and spices are very aromatic and lend themselves well to perfume-making. Additionally, making perfume from items around the house is affordable and simple and a great way to create your own signature scents. This lovely scent is suitable for both men and women.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups vodka 2 Tbs coriander seeds 1 broken nutmeg Zest from 1 whole orange 3 cinnamon sticks 2 bay leaves 1 Tbs whole cloves Glass container with cover Decorative containers

    Island Spice Perfume

  1. Step 1

    Sterilize the glass container by boiling it in hot water for 10 minutes. Let cool.

  2. Step 2

    Pour vodka into the container.

  3. Step 3

    Crush the cinnamon sticks and coriander seeds and add them to the vodka. You can use a mortar and pestle or place the spices in a plastic bag and roll over them with a rolling pin or wine bottle.

  4. Step 4

    Add the orange zest, nutmeg, bay leaves and whole cloves to the vodka.

  5. Step 5

    Cover the container tightly and agitate the mixture by rolling it between your hands or shaking it lightly.

  6. Step 6

    Leave the container in a warm, dark place for two weeks. At the end of two weeks, strain the mixture through muslin or a paper coffee filter and pour it into a new glass bottle.

Tips & Warnings
  • If possible, try removing the orange zest in long strips. Use whole fresh bay leaves. If using dried bay leaves, they can be broken up. Add orange peel or a cinnamon stick to the finished product as a decorative touch. Try experimenting with your favorite herbs and spices to make your own signature blend.
  • Do not store the mixture in a metal container, it may adversely affect the final product.
