Step 1
Contact local non-profit organizations such as homeless shelters, animal shelters, or other charitable establishments that may not have a sufficient budget for purchasing office equipment. Ask if they could use any of the equipment you have to offer. When it comes to products that rapidly change with the advance of technology, such as computers, you may want to only volunteer donations that are relatively modern.
-
Step 2
Browse the "Great Nonprofits" website to match the office equipment you have available with an organization in need. For example, enter "desk chair" in the "Search Needs" box and you will be given a list of non-profits currently requesting donations of desk chairs. You can then contact the organization for details on how to donate to them.
-
Step 3
Visit websites such as "Adopt-A-Classroom" and "I Love Schools" to find schools across the country requesting office equipment. These sites allow teachers and administrators to make "wish lists" of donations needed for their classrooms, which often include items such as computers, projectors, and printers.
-
Step 4
Call a local Goodwill or Salvation Army store and ask what types of office equipment donations they are currently accepting. These stores can re-sell the equipment to customers at an affordable price, and the money will in turn help fund their organizations.
-
Step 5
Consider donating office chairs and desks to a furniture bank, which can distribute them to people or organizations. Visit Help1Up.org and click on the "Find a Furniture Bank" link to find a local furniture bank to donate to. As a plus, they will most likely be able to pick the furniture up from your office or home for free.
