If you're looking for a way to cut corners on the cost of your wedding, think about creating your own invitations. You don't need a program to do it--you can find plenty of help online to design invitations that will suit your budget and boost your creativity.

1. Think about what you want your wedding invitations to look like. Do you want something simple with a photograph of you and your fiance on the cover? Or are you shooting for something more elegant? If you're looking for something with eight layers of vellum, creating an invitation online may not be for you, but if you want simple elegance, it might be just right.

2. Find an online invitation or card maker. A few are listed in the Resources section. If those aren't to your liking, online card making programs are easy to find by doing a simple online search, and most card making online programs also offer invitation-making templates. Some online invitation makers even have specific templates for weddings.

3. Once you've decided on an online invitation maker, follow the directions provided by the company. Some programs simply ask you to click on the invitation and fill in the information. Others require you to download the artwork and work from your computer.

4. Once you've finished creating your invitations to your specifications, print a sample invitation on the printer paper recommended by the program or company to see what your wedding invitation looks like. Make sure you are completely happy with your invitation. Check names, dates, and location specifics for typos. If you don't like something about the invitation, change it now, before you pay for printing costs or use up your ink.

5. Once you're completely happy with the way your printed invitation looks, print the number of invitations you think you'll need. One added bonus of creating your invitations online is that most programs remotely save your invitations. You can come back at any time and print more if you need them.

Tips & Warnings

• Have all the information for your wedding prepared before you start typing the information into your wedding invitation. You don't want to print out 100 invitations only to realize you misspelled the name of the church.

• Browse different programs before you begin to find the invitation you like best.

• If your invitation comes out smeared, make sure you used the right printer paper.

• Pick an invitation size you know you'll be able to find envelopes for. You can't mail an invitation without an envelope.
