Step 1
FLIRT. This is one of the easiest ways to let a guy know you're interested. Guys don't like to be rejected, they look for signs that show there's a chance you'll say 'Yes' before they ask.

Step 2
HINT. Next time you talk to him in the hall start talking about the cool new CD you found when you were prom dress shopping. This will give him a chance to ask if you have a date yet.

MAKE A PACT. If your desired date is a friend, make a pact that you'll go together if neither of you get a date by a certain time. Or hint that you think it would be more fun to go with a good friend.

Step 4
ASK HIM OUT. But not to prom. Ask him to a movie, dinner or some other non-prom activity. This will let him know you're interested.

Step 5
IF ALL ELSE FAILS. Ask him to prom yourself. Do it when nobody else is around, unless you're not afraid of being rejected in front of others (in that case, my props to you). What's the worst that could happen? Guys have face potential rejection every time they ask a girl out, so if he does turn you down at least you'll have some empathy next time you say 'No'. Remember, there are lots of boys out there!
