Step 1
Wear one artistic piece. Bohemian style clothing was brought to the forefront by struggling writers, artists & actors. As such, they tend to have unique silhouettes & color palettes. They usually have some interesting piece or element to them. You definitely won't get lost in a crowd with this look. You can wear a floppy hat, or a patterned shirt. If patterns aren't for you choose a unique color. Just remember that it's easy to go overboard with most themes. Choose one really unique piece & pair it with a few basic essentials. This way you won't look like you are wearing a costume.
-
Step 2
Find natural materials. This doesn't mean that you have to wear a faux fur vest. Most bohemian style clothing is paired with a leather belt. This adds a little bit of form to the silhouette & shows off the waist. If being green is important to you, head to the thrift shop to find discounted clothes. These fit in with the clothing style & most people would just pass them by.
-
Step 3
Look for a loose fit. Bohemian style clothing isn't tight. It should still fit well, but it includes flowy tops & long skirts or dresses. This is a fantastic way to have a complete outfit on days when you might not be feeling well, or you want to be comfortable. This is also fantastic if you hate high heels, it's all about a broken in pair of boots.
-
Step 4
Break convention. Bohemian style clothing doesn't really have a rhyme or reason. It was born out of a time when people wanted to be free & unconventional. This means that almost anything goes. There isn't a strict color palette. This style can encompass any color of the rainbow. Choose fabrics that are a little muted. Black isn't a staple color for this genre of clothing, but again, anything goes.
-
Step 5
Accessorize. Jewelry is a must. A lot of bohemian style clothing is paired with chunky bangle bracelets or even earrings made from peacock feathers. You can even find ones that are made out of wood fairly inexpensively. For a true bohemian style you can buy handcrafted goods to support local artists. Hammered metals are also popular in this way of dressing. Sparkly gemstones & diamonds are out. If natural jewelry appeals to you, look for cabochons that can save you a lot of money while still being a genuine gem.
