Basic, but tasty!
Basic, but tasty!

This article if for those who are looking for quick, easy tasty, low cost recipes. This has been one of my favorite foods since I was a teen ager (many moons ago). I enjoy this so much, I bring it to a lot of pot lucks. I get a lot of compliments on it. I just wanted to share it, because I know in todays society people are looking for quick, easy, low cost recipes. So I hope you try it, and enjoy it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Main ingredients 1# lean ground beef (or turkey)- 1 -28 oz can diced tomatoes- 1 cup elbow macaroni
  • Optional item- 1 small diced onion (this is a must for me)
  • Spices- 1 tsp salt- 1 tsp pepper- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning- one half tsp garlic salt or garlic powder (more or less to taste)
  1. Step 1

Brown the ground meat in a skillet, breaking up into small pieces with a fork. Add chopped onion at this time (if you choose to do so). Add the selected spices that you choose.Cook until the meat is thoroughly cooked.

  2. Step 2

While the meat is cooking, put a pot of water (at least 4 cups)on the stove and bring it to a boil. I usually add ½ tsp salt to the water to add a little extra flavor to the noodles. Prepare according to the package directions.

  3. Step 3

After your meat is browned, add the can of diced tomatoes. Heat until the juice starts to boil. Than reduce heat so that it can simmer. I like to simmer for about 15 minutes for the flavors to blend before adding the noodles.

  4. Step 4

When the noodles are done, drain out the water. I like to rinse them in warm water to reduce the excess starch. Now add the noodles to the meat- tomato mixture, and heat thoroughly. Your goulash is now ready to serve. Add some cottage cheese, a nice vegetable or salad, and your favorite dinner roll or a slice of bread and butter. You now have a well balanced meal. Enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is one of my favorite left over foods.
  • Freeze excess left overs in individual size servings, and pack in your lunch pail. It will be thawed out, and ready to heat in time for lunch.
  • Use any of your favorite pasta noodles in place of the elbow macaroni.
  • Other great additions to spice it up a bit: 1/2 cup salsa, and/or 1 small can sweet corn, and/or 1 small can mushroom stems and pieces.
