There is a fine line between search engine optimization and building a website that converts visitors into customers. These are some points that should be considered when building your website.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure your landing page and subsequent content talks to your visitors, not just the search engines. Visitors to your site should understand what you do and what you are selling within five seconds of arrival. Be clear and concise and write to motivate your visitor to take action.

  2. Step 2

Learn from your competition. Put your keywords into Google and take a look at your competition. These would be any websites listed higher in the rankings than you and are selling the same type of products and services. Another great way to find your competition is to download the Alexa toolbar (http://www.alexa.com/site/download). This nifty little toolbar ranks websites by their traffic. The lower the number, the greater their traffic and popularity on the Internet. Along with this number, they list the competition for any website that you are on. By the way, anything under 500,000 is considered to be a respectably popular website.

  3. Step 3

Be sure that you provide several ways for your customers to contact you. This is a number one reason visitors don’t buy on a website. People want to know that they can contact someone if something goes wrong. In fact, many people will test the support system before buying. Provide at least two email addresses, a support ticket system, and even live help if you can. Most hosting services provide these platforms in the Cpanel and they are easy to set up as a click of your mouse. Look in Fantastico Deluxe in your cpanel to see what options are available to help you with customer support.
