Instructions

    • 1
      Lie down

One of the first things you want to do for ear infection pain is to lie down with head elevated slightly. When you have an ear infection you get dizzy upon standing and become disoriented. I actually fell into a wall trying to walk holding my ear. Don't do what I did.

      Apply heat

Another pain reliever for ear infections is to apply heat. When I was growing up there were no microwaves so my mom folded a washcloth and put it in the oven. You can also use those old red water bottles, heating pads; electric or microwavable ones. Cold air makes ear infection pain worse so avoid the cold if possible.

      Quiet

This is an easy one and that is to keep it quiet, shhhh! Loud noise aggravates hurting ears and makes your head throb and pound. Then you get a headache on top of the ear pain. If your child has an ear infection keep the other kids away and everyone be as quiet as they can.

      Pain relief

Drop sweet oil or anesthetics in the ear. Whichever one you have or both. Although, not at the same time. Stay lying down for several minutes to allow it to go deep into the ear or else it can drain out. You may also need antibiotics, they need to be taken with food.

      Ear drainage

If you have a perforated ear drum your ear may drain so you need to keep cotton in it so it won't run down your neck. I know it sounds yucky, but it happens. This also keeps air from getting into the ear and aggravating it. I hate the feeling of when I take the cotton out, the air HURTS!

      See the Doc

Lastly, to ease ear infection pain you need to see the doc so you can get examined and pick up medical supplies. In addition, they may need to remove wax out of your ear. I've had huge chunks of dried wax taken out of my ear on two occasions.

Ear infection pain won't hang around long if you take good care of your ear and follow the instructions laid out for you here.
