How to tint windows on a Honda Civic

Adding tint to your windows on a Honda Civic will keep sun rays outs, keep your car cooler, and help your car look cooler. Tinting your windows just makes sense. There are very few, if any, drawbacks to tinting your windows. The money spent on tinting windows is well worth it. Follow these steps to tint your windows on a Honda Civic.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

There are two different ways to tint your windows. You can have it done professionally, or you can do it yourself. Having your Honda Civic windows done professionally means that you have a warranty and accountability to whoever tints the windows. It is more costly, but at least you know it will be done right the first time. Most window tint shops will offer a lifetime warranty on the tint. If you would like to attempt to tint your windows yourself, proceed to step 2.

  2. Step 2

First you will need a template of the window. You can either disassemble the door on the Honda Civic and trace the window on a piece of cardboard, or you can wing it and make a template with the window rolled all the way up. You need an accurate template or the window tint will not look or stick right.

  3. Step 3

Now you will need to pick out a window tint. Make sure to check your state regulations on window tint. The last thing you want is to have to remove the tint because it is too dark. Pick a tint that goes well with the color of your Honda Civic.

  4. Step 4

Lay the tint on the template and cut it out with a Xacto knife. You can find a Xacto knife at any arts and crafts retailer. Be accurate and cut evenly.

  5. Step 5

Clean the window with alcohol and a newspaper. Do not leave any debris or smudges on the window. It will need to be completely clean if you want the tint to stick correctly to the Honda Civic window.

  6. Step 6

Spray the window with water using a water bottle. Start in one corner of the window and apply the tint. Pull the tint tight as you apply it to the window. Once the window is completely on, adjust it with a credit card by smoothing it over. The water on the window will help with adjustments. Smooth the window over several times with the credit card. Make sure to smooth out all air bubbles and the water from the window. Let the tint set for 24 hours before rolling down the window on your Honda Civic.
