How to Open a Locked Car Door

Open a car door in the case of a lockout. Easy to use, no lockpick or slimjimming required. Simple things bought at harware stores. This technique is used by some Police Departments and Locksmiths.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Air Wedge
  • Hanger
  • Steel/Iron Rod
  • Block of wood
  1. Step 1

    Air Wedge-It's purpose is to set windows and doors but can be very important to opening a locked car door.

    Slip uninflated air wedge in corder of door. Pump it until it opens enought to slip block of wood in.

    -Used to create a space in car door and car without damaging the car.

  2. Step 2

    Block of wood-Since wood in easy to come by have a couple sizes.
    1/2 inch thick and 2 inches by 4 inches
    1/4 inch thick and 2 inches by 4 inches


    -Used to hold door open if you need to put the air wedge in another spot.

  3. Step 3

    Hanger-Can be bent into a any shape necessary for time.

    -Used to pull handle, push window button, push unlock button, pull lock to unlock position, pick up keys if they are laying somewhere in car.

  4. Step 4

    Metal Rod-very solid tool used to unlock car from inside.
    Should be about 3/16 - 1/4 inch in diameter but anything thinner than a pencil should do.

    Bend it in the following shape. You can modify if you find something else works better.

    -Used to pull handle, push window button, push unlock button, pull lock to unlock position, pick up keys if they are laying somewhere in car.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try on your own car first. It will give you an idea of what you need to do if you actually have a lock out.
  • There are many ways to open/unlock a door from the inside. Pushing a button with the rod from across the car may be one. Pulling the door handle may be another.
  • You may need to bend the rod a certain way that makes it easiest for you. Practice on your own car to make the perfect rod.
  • If it's an all glass window, like on some sports cars (Mustang e.g.) you can break the glass doing this.
  • Don't do anything illegal.
