Believe me when I tell you that I have become an expert on thinning hair. Why? Because at age 63, I have had to come to terms with doing the best I can with thinning hair. When I was younger I had thick curly hair which I'll have to admit I took for granted. Now, I long for the days when it took longer to dry my hair. I long for the days when straight hair was in and I taped my bangs down to dry. Well, those days are gone and the war on thinning hair has begun!

I have read every article I could find on what to do with thin hair. I have also tried numerous products which promised thick luxurious hair. With that said - I'd like to share with you what I learned along the way...

  • Patience
  • A sense of humor
  • A never give up attitude

How to Make the Best of Thinning Hair

  1. Step 1

My hair is thin at the front and the crown. So, I've found that a short (not too short) haircut with layers works best for me. It allows me to style my hair in a way that hides the thin spot. Notice I didn't say that ugly word "bald or almost bald" spot! And, I won't say "comb-over" either! Us old gals do have feelings you know!

  2. Step 2

Next, I use shampoos that are thickening shampoos - I think they actually work. Well, at least they make me feel better about my hair. I also stay away from using too much conditioner which will only weight down my precious locks.

  3. Step 3

Now, you will need a good root lifter. Everything you read about thin lifeless hair tells you to use root lifter. This will give your hair body right where you need it at the roots. You apply it after you shampoo your hair and before you blow dry.

  4. Step 4

Finally, use a hair spray that will give you that extra lift that your hair needs. Even a gentle tease to your hair will make it appear to be fuller. Remember, keep that keen sense of humor, smile put on your makeup and be happy!

Tips & Warnings
  • With thinning hair your scalp is more susceptible to sunburn - wear a hat when you are going to be out in the sun.
