Legend says that kissing the Blarney Stone will give you the power of persuasive talk, the gift of eloquent gab. The word blarney has come to mean flattering or coaxing talk. The Blarney Stone is a supposed magical stone in Ireland located at the Blarney Castle. People from all over make the trip to Blarney Castle to take their turn at kissing the stone, hoping for this gift of persuasive and flattering speech. Learn to write as if YOU have kissed the Blarney Stone.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Persuasive writing is generally done to create a win-win situation, either to get the reader to do something or to agree with your point of view. There are a few techniques that will help make your case more compelling. Follow these persuasive writing techniques and before you know it, readers will find it beneficial to agree with you.

  2. Step 2

Repetition. Make your point in several different ways. You can be direct, use examples, tell a story, quote a famous person, and convince readers by making sure they fully understand what you are saying.

  3. Step 3

Comparisons. Don't be afraid to use metaphors, similes, and analogies in your persuasive writing. It is easy to convince someone when you can relate your scenario to something the reader already understand and accepts as true.

  4. Step 4

Empathize. Identify the problem and then worsen the reader's pain before offering your solution. Let readers know that YOU understand the problem because you have experienced it and know how to eliminate it.

  5. Step 5

Objections. Address all potential objections that you possibly can. You will need to thoroughly know your subject and what arguments or objections might arise. Know how to address them. A good persuasive writer will anticipate objections and be ready to present your case.

  6. Step 6

Consistency. Consistency is associated with integrity. Argue your case with plenty of supporting evidence. Always be able to resort back to your opening scenario and main point.

  7. Step 7

Reasons Why. Even if a reason doesn't make sense to a reader, they want to have a reason. People are more likely to comply to a request if you give them reasons why they should.

  8. Step 8

Happy St. Patrick's Day and happy writing!
