Get Laser Hair Removal

With warm weather and bikini season quickly approaching, many women are turning to laser hair removal for that sexy, bare look. Laser Hair Removal is a popular way of quickly and gently removing unwanted hair. It is important that you determine if you are a proper candidate for this procedure. As with any procedure, before making the decision, possible candidates should know what to expect, possible results and potential complications on laser hair removal. Learn more now.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses laser light to remove unwanted hair. This intense, pulsating light beam passes through the skin, targeting dark pigment in skin called melanin. When the light beam hits the follicle, the intense heat destroys the hair follicle instantly. It can take several treatments before the skin is completely hair-free.

As with any medical treatment, there are possible risks involved with laser hair treatment, including hyperpigmentation, or darkening of the skin, hypopigmentation, or lightening of the skin, and changes in the skin texture. Very rarely does blistering or scarring occur, but it is possible.

Risks and complications, though possible, are lessened by seeking a board certified dermatologist. Never allow a spa, salon, or clinic to perform this procedure.

  2. Step 2

Before you make the decision to get laser hair removal performed, you should consider these facts to make sure you are a good candidate.

*It is a requirement that the hair you want removed must be darker than the skin surrounding it.
*Darkly pigmented people are not ideal candidates because the dark skin absorbs too much laser energy into the skin.
*Tanned patients with light hair are not good candidates.
*If you are tan and have dark hair, you can be a candidate, but you must wait until the tan fades.

  3. Step 3

If you have met the ideal candidate requirements and have made the decision to have laser hair removal performed, congratulations. It is imperative that you find a qualified professional to perform the procedure. Be sure that the professional is board certified in dermatology. Be sure that all personnel assisting in the procedure are either licensed physicians or Registered Nurses.

  4. Step 4

To find a board certified dermatologist experienced in the laser hair removal procedure, visit the American Laser Center's website. You can link directly to this site by visiting the Resources section of this article. Click on LOCATIONS. You can either choose your state from the drop down menu, or by clicking on the appropriate state on the U.S. map. Either way, you will provided a list of the American Laser Center's locations, including the address, contact information, and driving directions to that center.

  5. Step 5

Once you determine the location best suited for your needs, contact that center to set up a consultation.
