Things You'll Need:
- Facial Hair Removal Products
-
Step 1
There are several products on the market that can help remove facial hair. However, a visit to your physician is in order if the amount and texture of your facial hair has changed. PCOS (also known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or Stein-Leventhal Syndrome)can trigger excess facial hair. Ruling out hormone imbalances and PCOS should be the first step in resolving this problem.
-
Step 2
VaniquaDiscuss Vaniqua with your physician while there. Vaniqua is a prescription facial cream that is intended to delay the rate of facial hair growth. Over a period of time, facial hair becomes finer and less dense. Some women may still need to use commercial products, but will need them less frequently.
-
Step 3
Choice of products is strictly a personal one. You may need to experiment a bit to find the product that works best for you.
Choices include depilatories (hair removers) and mechanical devices:
Wax - Found in the drugstore, wax is melted in the microwave, applied to the skin, and pulled forcefully off. This can be painful. Read package directions thoroughly! This method is fairly long lasting, up to 3-4 weeks for many women.
Lotions and cremes - Again, several brands are available. If your skin is sensitive, look for brands that are described as 'gentle' or 'For sensitive skin' and that comes with a facial conditioner creme. Follow package directions to the letter! Skin irritation can occur.
Pull Off Strips - These strips have a very sticky back, sometimes made with sugar, that are applied to the face, and pulled off with force.
Bleach - Can be considered for fine facial hair that is not too obvious. Bleach does not remove hair, but lightens it to make it less visible. This method is not the method of choice for facial hair!
Mechanical Devices - Doing a Google search for "facial hair removers" will return several electrical/battery operated mechanical devices that pull hair out by the root - much different than shaving, where hair is cut at the surface. New hair grows back slowly. These devices can be very painful, but results last a bit longer than depilatories. Replacement parts are needed on a regular basis.
Electrolysis - This is a permanent method of hair removal, using an electric needle. It is the most expensive, and some women consider it painful. Several visits are needed to complete the treatment.
