Washing cloth diapers is so easy, and saves money, too! This article will show you the quick and easy way to wash them. It saves money, and is green for the environment.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

When you change your baby's cloth diaper, just toss it in your diaper bucket (see my article on setting up a diaper bucket). If the diaper has solid waste, you can rinse that off in the toilet.

  2. Step 2

Carry your full bucket of diapers to your washing machine. Dump it all in. Set your washer on Spin. If the diapers are heavily soiled, do a Rinse and Spin. (While the washer spins out most of the water, refill your diaper bucket.)

  3. Step 3

First wash: add laundry detergent (I prefer a perfume-free and dye-free laundry detergent), enzymatic cleaner (such as Bac-Out), and non-chlorine bleach. Wash with Hot water, cold rinse.

  4. Step 4

Second wash: add laundry detergent and non-chlorine bleach. Wash warm, cold rinse.

  5. Step 5

Transfer to your dryer and tumble dry on low heat.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have an outdoor clothes-line, you can dry the diapers in the sun, which saves money!
  • Chlorine bleach is not recommended because it can weaken the cotton fibers.
