Step 1
Use proper water temperature.Choosing a face wash. Special care should be taken when choosing a face wash for dry skin. The wrong choice can cause skin to become dryer. You need to choose a face wash designed for dry skin. It should be a milky or creamy type. It will not foam as much as a typical cleanser. Reason being that the foaming surfactants tend to increase dryness.Look for natural skin care products. They are usually plant or organic based washes that do not contain the foaming surfactants. Also when washing your face use warm not hot water. Hot water also increases dryness. Even if you are dry with a small amount of a break out choose a cleanser for dry skin. Blemishes can be treated with spot treatments. I will explain more in step 3. You should also choose a eye make up remover to be used around your eye area. See my article,* How to gently remove eye make up and mascara.* This will help you choose the best type.

Step 2
The suns rays cause permanent damage to unprotected skin.Moisturize. Choose a day time moisturizer and an night cream. You day time moisturizer should contain an spf of 15 or greater. Sun exposure causes permanent damage to your skin if you are not using proper protection. See my article, *How to decide which is right for your face, Sun block or sunscreen.* This will help you make the right choice. As for your night cream. Choose a cream that offers the benefits of extra hydration for dry skin. Your skin needs to be repaired as well as nourished every night.
-
Step 3
Treatment creams , serums, eye creams. Treatment or spot treatment cream may be added to your routine as effective problem solvers. For example if you have mild break outs choose a spot treatment. All over acne or blemish control creams will cause more dryness. Serums add benefits such as wrinkle reduction. Choose an eye cream for both day and night. dryer skin types truly benefit from eye cream. With the lack of oil and moisture your eye area is greatly exposed and at risk for crows feat , deep wrinkles and pigmentation. See my article * How to care for the delicate eye area and slow the aging process* It will help you care for your eyes properly.

Step 4
Exfoliate. Some people think that if you exfoliate dry skin it dies no good. Wrong. Once you remove dry dead skin cells you allow your skin to replenish itself and brings healthy plump skin to the surface. It also allows your skin to absorb crucial nutrients and hydrating factors at a deeper level. Choose an exfoliant that is an enzyme based. Dermalogica makes a great exfoliant called Gentle Cream Exfoliant. It is a cream and is not abrasive. Do not use a scrub. Scrubs are to rough and harsh on dry skin.
-
Step 5
Masks both nourish and hydrate dry skinMask. Use a hydrating mask 1-2 times a week. Masks are best to be used after you exfoliate. This will allow the benefits of the mask to absorb into skin at a deeper level. Look for natural skin care products. They will offer higher benefits of natural ingredients that will not dry skin.
-
Step 6
Water is great for your body and skinStick to your routine. When you keep on track with a regular routine you will see improvements in a good amount of time. Drink a lot of water. Dry skin tend to be dehydrated. The water you consume daily has to be absorbed by your entire body before it gets to the surface.
-
Step 7
Choosing make up for dry skin tends to be tricky. Always try to stay away anything that contains talc. Talc absorbs into skin and can cause breakouts. Look for mineral based make up. Mineral make up pis natural and does not clog pores like talc. Also if you wear a cover up, look for mineral based products as well. Not only will your coverage look more natural it will work with your skin and not against it.
