Adding a performance air intake to your vehicle is a great way to increase performance. The stock air intake on most vehicles is smaller and restrictive to reduce noise levels, replacing it with a new air intake system will increase mileage and horsepower.

Things You'll Need:

  • Know the make, model and exact engine size of your car before purchasing a performance air intake system.
  1. Step 1

Choose an air intake system that has a smooth pipe with few bends, this will reduce resistance inside the tube. The best performance air intake will sit a bit lower in the engine bay too, this is where the air is a bit cooler.

  2. Step 2

Make sure the performance air intake has a less restrictive filter. A less restrictive filter will allow more air into the engine for better performance. The best air intake system like a K&N will have a permanent washable filter.

  3. Step 3

The absolute best performance air intake will have some form of heat shield to prevent hot air from entering the engine (hindering performance). A performance air intake system that mounts into the wheel well will take cold air from outside the engine compartment thus providing the best performance.

  4. Step 4

Make sure you read performance air intake reviews before purchasing. Other owners of the vehicle you have may have posted their experience with the performance air intake you're interested in. Read these air intake system reviews carefully.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't automatically go for the most colorful of flashiest air intake system. Look at pipe shape, filter quality and mounting to make the best decision.
  • Make sure you read performance air intake reviews before purchasing to see what other owners are saying.
