Things You'll Need:
- Dog treats
-
Step 1
Make sure your dog is in a safe place. In the house, or in a fenced in yard area is ideal.
-
Step 2
Call your dog's name in a fun, sweet way that will get her attention.
-
Step 3
Once she starts coming to you, then start saying, "come (insert puppy's name)". It is important to wait until she is already heading toward you to say the command "come". This way, she will understand that what she is doing is "coming".
-
Step 4
Once she has come to you, praise her. Throw a party! She should think that she is the best dog in the world for "coming". Say, "what a good dog for coming", or anything along those lines. Give her a treat while you are praising her and complementing her for coming!
-
Step 5
Repeat this process until your dog successfully "comes" to you. Once she starts getting the hang of it in a safe, secure place, you can begin the process of teaching her to "come" on walks. While she is on her leash, repeat above steps.
-
Step 6
Once she has mastered this command, you can ensure the safety of your dog, and enjoy her company even more!
