With all the stresses we face in our daily lives we end up tossing and turning at night trying to fall asleep. Our minds seem to go in circles and it is hard to slow the pattern long enough to get to sleep. Without a good nights sleep it interferes with our ability to deal with daily routines. You can help yourself to learn a very simple, relaxing pattern to get yourself to sleep rather quickly without any pills or other aids.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Comfortable bed
  • Proper blankets or
  • covers
  1. Step 1

Lie in a comfortable position preferably with your feet and hands stretch out without curing your body.

  2. Step 2

Think about how comfortable your hands and feet are at the moment. They may not be completely comfortable or relaxed at the moment but they will soon get there.

  3. Step 3

Choose to relax your feet-one toe at a time starting with the little toe on your left foot. Concentrate on this little toe saying to yourself how relaxed it is. Keep doing this until it begins to be completely relaxed.

  4. Step 4

Move on to the toe next to the little toe. Get it completely relaxed like you did with the first little toe. Keep up this routine moving on to the rest of the toes, one toe at a time until all of them are completly relaxed.

  5. Step 5

If you are having difficulty relaxing the feet or still feel that you need more relaxation use this same routing starting with your little finger on the left hand moving slowly with each finger until you have done this with the right hand, too.

Tips & Warnings
  • This routine takes practice. Sometimes it takes a number of times to help make it work but once you learn it you would be surprised how fast you can fall aleep without any extra help or pills. • This method is intended for fairly normal restless situations-not to be used as any kind of means of eleminating prescribed medicine such as may be needed due to an illness or existing disease.
