Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

The first step it to buy ordinary inexpensive jeans. If you want to be a true recessionista you can dig up an old pair of jeans that still fit but that you thought were out of date.

  2. Step 2

One way to custom design your jeans is to bleach them. There are two ways you can do this. Be sure to put on protective plastic gloves before doing working with bleach.

  3. Step 3

First, fill a bucket with water and add two cups of bleach to it. Be careful not to spill! You might want to wear clothes you wouldn't mind ruining while doing this, just in case you splash bleach on them by accident.

The first way to bleach your jeans is with a sponge. After putting on your gloves, grab the sponge and dip it into the water/bleach mixture. Squeeze it to release extra water and then wipe the creases of your jeans with it. Repeat this until you get the desired effect.

  5. Step 5

The second way to bleach your jeans is with a toothbrush. Dip the toothbrush in the water/bleach bucket and then spritz your jeans with it. You can replace the toothbrush with an actual spritzer bottle if you want a more even tone.

Another way to customize your jeans is with scissors. You can cut into them and make cool rips and tears. Also, try making a small cut and then pulling apart the rest with your hands for a more grungy effect.

Finally, you can iron on or sew on patches. Patches can be from any fabric you have that might have a cool pattern or you can purchase them online. Below is a great website to find all different kinds of patches:
