Replacing a dead bolt is easy to do. Whenever we can save money we should do it. Calling a locksmith to replace a deadbolt will start around $50.00 just for the service call and go up from there. Do it yourself and save yourself some money.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phillips screw driver,WD40 or compatible lubricate, new deadbolt lock.
  1. Step 1
     

    Remove the two phillips screws on the deadbolt plate seen in picture.

  2. Step 2
     

    Slide out each side of your deadbolt.

  3. Step 3
     

    Remove the two screws from your strike plate seen in picture. Slide out strike plate.

  4. Step 4

    Lubricate the inside striker part (picture above). You can use a lubricate such as DW40. This way your deadbolt lock will operate freely.

  5. Step 5

    Slide new strike plate back into door and replace screws.

  6. Step 6
     

    Slide keyed side of new deadbolt in, (make sure the keyed lock part is to the outside of the door).

  7. Step 7
     

    Line up inside latch (in picture) with other side you already put in place line up inside extension piece, replace screws and you are done.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may have a double keyed deadbolt, instead of one with a latch. Replace the same way.
