How to Remove Cigarette Smoke Odor

Cigarette smoke odors can be minimized with nontoxic inexpensive household chemicals.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

You can open doors and windows when weather permits to let smoke out, but smoke odors remain. Things, that are made of cloth, absorb smoke odors much more than most other materials found in the home.

  2. Step 2

So clothing, drapes, and cloth furniture are the main things to be concerned with. Get a bottle of white vinegar and replace the cap with a cap that has a spray nozzle. (Many household sprays have caps that fit vinegar bottles).

  3. Step 3

With the spray adjusted to mist instead of stream, spray whatever you want to deodorize. Pick out something you can smell smoke odor from. (Some less smoke odored items may not be detectable by a smoker). Now spray the entire item with vinegar as though you was putting a light coat of paint on it.

  4. Step 4

After a few minutes give the sprayed item another sniff. If there is still smoke odor, spray it again. After you have finished deodorizing the item, it smells like vinegar. Even if you happened to love the smell of vinegar, what would your visitors think?

  5. Step 5

After you have deodorized everything, it is time to perfume, that is is time to neutralize the vinegar smell. My favorite choice is wintergreen alcohol, just put a sprayer into the bottle of alcohol and coat the items with its mist. Fabric fresh spray is one that works well. To each their own.
