Things You'll Need:
- Dirty laptop screen
- Soft Cloth
-
Step 1
Before you clean your screen, you must put the screen in a condition to show dirt. If you have a glossy screen, like on most modern laptops, put your computer into "Sleep" mode so the screen goes black. Dirt will show up best on a glossy screen if no image is displayed.
-
Step 2
Realize that there are three main types of dirt that gets on laptop screens: fingerprints, loose dust, and mysterious dried marks that will be referred to as "chunkies."
-
Step 3
To remove fingerprints, use a soft cloth (like a computer-cleaning cloth or a t-shirt) and rub until they're gone. A little bit of water can help too, but make sure to avoid electrical components.
-
Step 4
To remove loose dust, a tissue or a dust-removal cloth (like a Swiffer) works best. Simply brush the dust and lift it off the screen.
-
Step 5
Finally, you have to remove the chunkies. Chunkies are the strange dried marks on your screen - nobody knows where they come from, and they're the hardest to remove. Take a soft cloth, put a little bit of water on it, and scrub until the chunkies are gone. Don't push too hard - you don't want to break the screen - just scrub until the screen is sufficiently clean.
-
Step 6
Repeat these tips as needed to keep the screen clean.
