There are a number of things you can do to remove household dust.

Over time, household dust naturally builds up in the home, giving surfaces a gray, fuzzy look that affects the air you breathe. While many people assume that a quick brush with a feather duster is effective enough to remove all household dust, the truth is that there are a few things you need to do in order to get rid of as much dust as possible. Dusting should be a chore that is performed consistently in order to retain a clean, dust-free home.

    Things You'll Need

    • Soft cloth
    • Clean rag
    • Mild liquid soap
    • Laundry detergent
    • Vacuum cleaner
    • Air purifier
      • 1

Wipe all hard surfaces with a soft cloth on a weekly basis to remove dust build up. If you wish, you can add a fresh aroma and shine by using a household dusting spray.

      • 2

Dip a clean rag into some warm water that has been mixed with a touch of mild liquid soap and squeeze out all excess moisture. Rub the damp rag over the walls to remove dust residue. This should be done on a monthly basis.

      • 3

Clean all household linens, such as curtains and bedspreads, using your usual laundry detergent. Read the tags on the pieces before washing them to ensure you are not doing something that will ruin the fabric.

      • 4

Vacuum the carpet thoroughly to remove embedded dust at least every other day. If you do not have carpet, sweep and/or mop the floor on a weekly basis to keep it dust free.

      • 5

Install and use an air purifier to remove dust in the air that is not visible to the eye. Removing the dust from the air will provide clean air for your lungs.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Keep your house tidy and uncluttered to discourage heavy dust build up.

    • Removing shoes at the door will decrease the amount of dust that gets circulated into your home.
