Taking the time, effort, and fore thought to get the word out about your yard sale can make all the difference in your sale's success. Follow these steps to ensure that there will be plenty of bargain hunters showing up at your sale:

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find out what your city's law is concerning posting signs around the city.

  2. Step 2

If posting signs is allowed, put up signs at nearby intersections 5 days before the sale. There is no need to spend a lot of time (or money) on the signs (after all you will be busy pricing all your stuff!), but make sure that the signs are neat, very easy to read, and eye-catching.

Include your address, the date of the sale, and the hours you will be having it.

(Be sure to remove the signs after the sale is over).

  3. Step 3

If Craigslist is available in your area, advertise there. Be sure to briefly list some popular selling items you will have to lure people there. (Baby clothes, books, furniture, etc . . .) If you don't want early birds or questions emailed to you, be sure to post that on your ad.

  4. Step 4

Find community boards that will allow you to hang fliers. Libraries, grocery stores, gyms, and other places will often allow you to do so.

  5. Step 5

Be prepared for the crowds to come on the big day!
