Hit the thrift stores. Thrift stores are a great place to find aged, worn furniture for your kitchen and dining room, such as a table, chairs or cabinets.

Paint new furniture white or tan. Once the paint dries, use sandpaper, metal objects or anything else with a rough surface to scrape over the paint and chip away just enough to make it look worn out. You can also paint your furniture with a crackle paint that creates a worn look when it dries.

Opt for softer colors, such as off white, pale pink or a soft blue to create the shabby chic look in your kitchen and dining room. Some places to apply colors include the curtains, tablecloths or paint colors.
