Things You'll Need:
- Large bag of small colored gum drops
- Tree limb with some thorns on it, like a hawthorn tree, or small branches trimmed to make posts.
- Paint, opitonal
- Ribbon
- Easter basket grass
- Colored eggs or plastice colored eggs.
- A base for the tree
- Glass marbles or small pebbles
-
Step 1
Cut and prepare the tree limb for the gum drops. A thorny bush limb, if it is stiff will work fine. A small tree limb with the little branches trimmed to about half an inch from the base of the limb will also hold the gum drops. Place the limb in a tall vase and weight it down with some glass marbles or little stones to hold the tree upright. If the vase is clear the colored marbles will add to the overall color theme.
-
Step 2
Next place the gum drops onto as many of the thorns as you want to use, balancing the colors for variety. One large bag will probably be plenty for the tree. I would advise to not eat these gum drops later. They will dry out and the juice of the tree might not be healthy.
-
Step 3
If you want the limb to be a different color than it's natural color, spray paint it before adding the candy drops. White is nice to set off the gum drops. The spring colors will pop out against white background.
Use the Easter grass, any color, to create a garden around the bottom of the vase. It can be on a large platter if you don't want it spreading everywhere uncontrolled. Then place the larger colored eggs around the base of the vase. Repeat he colors of some of the gum drops when you color the eggs. -
Step 4
A few chocolate bunnies and yellow marshmallo chicks will look cute too laying amoung the large eggs. Leave the candy in boxes if you want to share it later from the centerpiece. Jelly beans can be placed amoung the grass and eggs. Tie a few pastel ribbons to some of the limbs if you want it more frilly. Little silk spring flowers can be hot glued to the ribbons if desired.
