PMC is precious metal clay. Depending on the brand you buy, the shrinkage factor differs but they all result in fine silver objects; usually jewelry pieces. You can make any type of jewelry including rings as long as the ring is made larger prior to firing.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • pmc
  • kiln
  • stamps (optional)
  • small rolling pin
  • crafting knife (xacto)
  • steel wire brush
  • tumbler (optional)
  1. Step 1

Open you package of PMC. The clay needs to be softened before you start. Roll or knead the clay until it is soft enough to work with.

  2. Step 2

Prepare your work surface. The table should be covered in wax paper and the stamps should be lightly coated with oil to prevent sticking.

  3. Step 3

Roll your clay with the rolling pin to an even thickness depending on your project. You want even thickness for even firing.

  4. Step 4

Take your stamp an make an even impression into the clay. If you aren't using a stamp, make your design.

  5. Step 5

Cut the remaining clay away with the xacto knife in a shape that will determine your end result.

  6. Step 6

Set aside to dry. After drying, you can remove any sharp edges with the craft knife.

  7. Step 7

Put the piece in a kiln. Your PMC package will give you firing temperatures and timing. Every brand is different and range from 1100 degrees to 1650 degrees and can fire from 10 minutes to 2 hours.

  8. Step 8

After firing, brush the piece with a wire brush to remove the white layer. If you have a tumbler, put the piece in a tumbler.

  9. Step 9

    Your piece is now ready.
