Here is an easy guide on how to use a jigsaw. A lot of us know what it is, but not how to use it. No need to just let it sit and collect dust. Learn how to use it here and then go to my article on how to build a yard toss game board.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Jigsaw
  • 1 sheet of 1/2 inch x 2 - x 4 foot plywood
  • compass
  • safety glasses
  • tape measure
  • framing square
  • sanding sponge
  • drill/driver with a 3/8 inch bit
  1. Step 1

Mark and measure: Put on your safety glasses. Determine the size and position of the circle on the board. Use a pencil and compass to draw the circle.

  2. Step 2

Position the board and drill a starter hole: Place the board with the cutting area extending beyond the end of the work surface and clamp securely in place. Drill a 3/8 inch starter hole just inside the scribed circle.

  3. Step 3

Position the saw and start to cut: Position the jigsaw with the blade inside the starter hole and with the jigsaw's shoe plate flush with the board. Making sure the blade is not touching the board, start the saw and cut an arc to reach just inside the waste side of the scribed circle.
Continue until you cut about half of the circle.

  4. Step 4

Finish the cut: Find a comfortable position to avoid an unsafe or awkward cutting angle and finish cutting the remainder of the circle. Use a sanding sponge to sand away any uneven spots to clean up the edges.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to wear safety glasses.
  • Do not have your body or fingers near the blade to avoid injury.
