- Lighter
- Paper/Wood cutter
-
Step 1
In this project we will make table numbers from wood and printed using t-shirt transfer paper. To start we will need bass wood, available from Midwest woods and found in pretty much any craft store. Other woods can be used, I just find bass wood to be the easiest to cut, but feel free to experiment ... the process also works on any scrap wood you might have ... etc. We will also need a knife, a t-square, t-shirt transfer paper printed with the number we will be transferring and an iron. You can download numbers 1-24 for free from our website at http://www.cdggallery.com/wood-numbers.pdf . Any t-shirt paper will work, although I find that Avery white t-shirt iron on transfer paper works best. Avery also makes T-shirt transfer paper for dark t-shirts, this one is also OK but I find the white t-shirt transfer paper to work much, much better. After downloading the files or making your own make sure you print them on an ink jet printer. These papers will not work with laser printers.

Step 2
We will be making a 4x5 table number. Since the wood I purchased already comes 4 inches wide, all we need to do is mark 5 inches from the edge. Repeat this step for as many table numbers you are making. Also make sure the wood is at least 3/32 inch thick. This way it will not warp too much when applying heat with the iron.
-
Step 3
pull a line which we will use for cutting....
-
Step 4
With a razor, make scores by pulling the knife along the edge of a metal ruler at least 4-5 times, pressing firmly. please exercise safety while doing this. It can easily happen for the knife to slip.
-
Step 5
Gently bend the wood until it snaps.
-
Step 6
Cut out the printed piece of t-shirt transfer paper, cutting out the numbers.
Again, the numbers can be downloaded from http://www.cdggallery.com/wood-numbers.pdf -
Step 7
Place the cut and printed piece of t-shirt transfer iron-on paper we just cut on top of the cut piece of wood. make sure the iron is hot. Follow directions from the paper manufacturer. they are usually included in the package.
-
Step 8
Firmly press with the hot iron, starting at the edges and slowly work along the entire piece repeating the process few times. The entire process should last about 1-2 min per piece.
-
Step 9
and here we go...now we are ready to burn the edges for a more rustic look. This step is not necessary, the edges can be finished off with paint as well.
-
Step 10
Burn the edges with your lighter. Make sure you blow out the flames right away otherwise you can cause a fire or burn the whole table number
-
Step 11
Repeat these steps for as many numbers you need. Again, the numbers can be downloaded for free from our website at http://www.cdggallery.com/wood-numbers.pdf ... enjoy....
