Some people, whether young or old, who lost some or all their teeth wear dentures. Dentures are made to closely resemble the natural teeth. They are made to improve the look of a person’s smile and help fill out the appearance of the face. Proper denture care is important for both the health of your dentures and mouth. Whether you have full or partial dentures, practice the following steps to take care of your false teeth.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Knowledge
  • Proper oral care
  1. Step 1

Like natural teeth, brush your dentures everyday using a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove food particles and plaque. Do the same to your gums and tongue. Brushing your dentures prevents permanent stains and keeps your mouth healthy.

  2. Step 2

Handle your dentures with care. They are very delicate and can break easily if they are dropped. Hold them over a soft towel or stand over a basin filled with water when handling them.

  3. Step 3

Be cautious when eating hot or hard foods and sharp-edged bones or shells. They may damage your dentures.

  4. Step 4

When you are not wearing your dentures, soak them in water or in a denture solution recommended by your dentist. Dentures will lose their shape if you allow them to dry out. Never place them in hot water since this cause your dentures to warp. Also, store them in a place away from children and pets.

  5. Step 5

Avoid cleaning your dentures with household cleaners that are abrasive such as bleach because it will damage them. Your dentist usually recommends a denture cleanser that is safe and effective for cleaning your dentures.

  6. Step 6

Remove your dentures before going to bed. This allows gum tissues to rest and promotes oral health.

  7. Step 7

Refrain from making minor adjustment or repairs to your dentures. You can seriously damage them and cause harm to your health. Always see your dentist if your dentures break, crack, and chip or if one of the teeth becomes loose.
