Maybe when you were growing up Friday or Saturday night meant homemade hamburgers, fresh-cut French fries and real popcorn made on the stove because after dinner was movie night. With fast food being so prevalent today, you may have forgotten or your kids may have never known those delicious homemade hamburgers. Things You'll Need

  • 1 pound lean hamburger
  • 2 to 3 large eggs
  • 1 medium-sized onion
  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1 cup diced green, red and yellow peppers
  • Onion salt, Lawry's seasoned salt, red pepper or other seasonings to taste

      Place a pound of lean ground beef in a large mixing bowl. Add the eggs, oatmeal, a medium diced onion and a cup of diced green, red and yellow peppers.

      Add seasonings to taste. Some suggested seasonings are Lawry's seasoned salt, garlic salt or red pepper, but you can use your favorite seasonings, as this will become your own homemade hamburger recipe.

      Thoroughly mix the meat, other ingredients and seasonings together with your freshly washed hands. Have fun as you squish the meat, eggs and oatmeal through your fingers. Then make nice-sized patties to fit the appetite of your family.

      Cook your burgers on your stove in a preheated pan or on a hot grill. The preparation is the key. Cook them until they are as you like them, rare, medium or well done.

      Place the cooked burgers on a lightly toasted bun or English muffin. Add lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese and the condiments of your choice.
