Step 1
Set a budget. Prices for memory foam mattresses are usually a little higher than regular mattresses and vary a good degree in price. While cheap visco elastic foam mattresses may be appealing, keep in mind that not all memory foam is the same--comfort can range quite a bit even though it's all the same type of foam.
-
Step 2
Choose the best size. Sizes are the same as standard mattresses, including twin, twin long, double, queen, king, and California king.
-
Step 3
Get the right density of foam. While everyone prefers a different density, watch out for cheaper visco elastic foam mattresses, as these are more likely to turn out to not be dense enough. Check the resources for more info on choosing the best density of foam.
-
Step 4
Try it out. The best way to know if you like the mattress is to lay or sleep on it. Ideally, you'll want to lay on it for more than just a few seconds in-store. Find a place that offers free trials where you can take the mattress home for a while and try it out before you buy.
-
Step 5
Read customer reviews. In addition to trying the visco elastic memory foam mattress out (or if trying it out isn't possible), find out what people are saying about the mattress you're thinking about buying. What did they like or dislike about it? Lots of information is revealed in customer reviews that can be found no where else.
