Step 1
First, before you pick Fantasy NASCAR drivers, make sure you understand how your fantasy league scoring rules work. Each league can be set up different, so be certain to read all of the rules and restrictions. Normally, each manager must pick eight Fantasy NASCAR drivers from different rankings before qualifying starts each week. You can earn bonus points based on how your drivers perform in qualifying. Once qualifying is completed, you will need to select the drivers you want to run for the actual race from those drivers you chose for qualifying. You will also want to keep in mind that bonus points can be awarded for laps led and that in most Fantasy NASCAR leagues, you can only use each driver a certain number of times throughout the season.

Step 2
Now that you have reviewed your Fantasy NASCAR league's scoring procedures, you will want to start your fantasy research. You can choose to do separate research each week, which is recommended, or you can do research for multiple races ahead of time. First, you will want to look at the race track and determine which NASCAR drivers are notorious for performing well or poorly on the particular track. Obviously, you will want to pick Fantasy NASCAR drivers that have historically performed well on the track with the hope that their streak will continue. You can find the results from previous year's races on NASCAR.com - a direct link is provided in the resources section at the bottom of this article.

Step 3
Next, you will also want to take into consideration current momentum. It seems that many NASCAR drivers tend to do well for a few weeks in a row or go on "hot streaks". You will want to pick Fantasy NASCAR drivers that are in the midst of a hot streak or pick drivers that tend to do well at the beginning, middle, or end of the season. Try to save some of the drivers that you think will be in the Chase for the Cup for the end of the season.

Step 4
Finally, as you pick Fantasy NASCAR drivers, you will want to take into account expected track conditions and the race type/length. For instance, there are certain drivers who perform extremely well in the road races each year. Also, there are drivers who tend to perform better than others during night races or during races extended by multiple weather delays. Obviously, when race day rolls around, the results are completely out of your control, however you can certainly better your chances for a successful Fantasy NASCAR season by conducting the right research before the race. Good luck and good racing.
