there are a couple of ways to remove old caulking. first you need to identify which type of caulking you have. anything around a tub should be silicon, but i have seen the wrong type used and it will make it harder to get off. to identify which is which , poke it with your fingernail. if it is rubbery then it is silicon. if not i have special steps for you. just read on.

I have to recaulk my tub every couple of months. I scrape the old caulking off, scrub it, bleach it, and apply the new caulking. I use silicone caulking now but the first time I took it off was hard. I wish I'd known about the solvent. Good info! 5* -
