      there are a couple of ways to remove old caulking. first you need to identify which type of caulking you have. anything around a tub should be silicon, but i have seen the wrong type used and it will make it harder to get off. to identify which is which , poke it with your fingernail. if it is rubbery then it is silicon. if not i have special steps for you. just read on.

      for silicon caulking all you need to do is scrape the area with a razor knife. the bulk should come off easily. anything thing left just scrape it again. simple as that. make sure you clean it with a bleach solution to kill any mildew, before reapplying caulk.

      if your caulk is hard then you must use a solvent. liquid nails make a good solvent for it. it cost around $5 and will soften the caulking so it can be removed.

    I have to recaulk my tub every couple of months. I scrape the old caulking off, scrub it, bleach it, and apply the new caulking. I use silicone caulking now but the first time I took it off was hard. I wish I'd known about the solvent. Good info! 5*
