Installing a Pergo floor is an economical home improvement that is relatively easy. There are hundreds of different styles and brands to choose from and since there is no glue, there is little mess.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • measurement tape
  • pergo flooring materials
  • circular saw
  1. Step 1

Measure the room twice. Once you have the measurements, go to your local home improvement store and pick out the "pergo" of your choice. (Pergo is the brand name for the non-wood glueless wood floors)

  2. Step 2

You will also need to purchase the underlayment that goes under the flooring. This stuff is easy to cut and you can tape it into place so it is very easy to work with.

  3. Step 3

The floor is designed to be free floating. It doesn't sit snug against the walls but rather a 1/4" gap is left all around the exterior of your floor. Keep this in mind as you begin your install.

  4. Step 4

Simply roll out your underlayment and cut it to size. Start in one corner while leaving your 1/4" gap and work length-wise down the room making your first run. The boards have a tongue and groove system that interlock in place both end to end and side to side. It takes a little practice to get them to go together but it isn't too bad.

  5. Step 5

You may want to use a little strategy to place the location of your boards that you have to cut. When I laid my floor I just made sure that I didn't start each run on the same side. This way all of your cuts don't end up on the same side.

  6. Step 6

The material is easy to cut with a circular or table saw. Be sure to buy a little extra material for any errors.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take your time and make sure all boards snap into place.
  • Be sure to leave 1/4" around the perimeter to allow for the "free floating" design of the floor.
  • If you spill anything on your floor clean it up right away. If you don't then the floor will bubble up if any fluid goes in between the cracks!
