Vegetarian burgers typically use soy or other beans instead of ground beef. They are sold at many restaurants and also are available in the freezer section of many grocer stores. Two popular brands are Boca and MorningStar. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1 can black beans, drained
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 slices bread, crumbled
  • 1 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking oil (not needed if barbecuing)

      Saute the onions until soft, about three to five minutes.

      Smash the beans in a bowl until they are smooth. Add the sauteed onions and the other ingredients except the oil and flour.

      Add the flour a tablespoon and mix to combine well. The mixture should be thick.

      Form the bean mixture into half-inch thick patties and fry using a small amount of oil. These also can be barbecued. Cook until firm.
